Postmenopausal bleeding?

I'm (49F)so confused at the moment, and I am hoping for an explanation that clicks for me because nothing online feels like the answer, and even my gynecologist appears to be scratching his head. (Further testing is coming). I have always had a pretty normal menstrual cycle. Never really painful (I've been lucky that way) and never irregular. I had my first child at 19 and my 2nd at 34. He ordered an ultrasound that I have coming up on Tuesday (today is Sunday). No explanation online makes sense, and his theories aren't really clicking with me, either. Especially since 5 weeks later, it is here again. So, 2 months in a row, and it feels pretty normal. I can be a tad dismissive with my health. I'm the type that looks for
